On June 13, 2014 Cohesion Media will be holding their 4th Annual Cohesion Classic Charity Golf Tournament. This one day tournament will raise funds to support KidSport Alberta, providing kids access to participating in sports where they may not have been able to before. Plain and simple, this day is about seeing that no kid be told “no” when it comes to playing sports, removing any financial restrictions that may affect a kid’s access to sport.

“It’s a day about golf, socializing, and getting the money into the hands of those who need it most,” says Ryan Loyva, Cohesion’s Director of Sales & Marketing. With the growing costs of fees, equipment and travel to participate in organized sports, Cohesion wants to be able to help support families who find themselves unable to provide these opportunities for their children. More than anything, Loyva says, “we want this day to be about KidSport and the sponsors whose support allows this event to take place.”

For Chad Thomlinson, General Manager of Highwood Golf Club,  he is thrilled that this day is committed to raising funds for KidSport, and is excited to be able to provide up to 100 kids with a FREE golf lesson this day. In fact, Highwood looks at continuing to support the Cohesion Golf Classic not just this year, but in future years to come. “We have aspirations of introducing thousands of kids to the game through this partnership in the future.”

While last year’s Cohesion Classic was the last event to take place at Highwood prior to the June 2013 flood, this year’s Classic will be the first golf event at the course since opening. With this, Thomlinson sees this as a great way to support Cohesion’s drive to support and rebuild the resiliency of High River and area. “With all that happened in High River in 2013, we are trying to get back to some kind of normal, a new normal yes, but continuing with programs like this will help everyone heal and move forward,” says Thomlinson.

This year we are thrilled to have Lisa “Longball” Vlooswyk as our Keynote Speaker. As the 7-Time Canadian Long Drive Champion, Lisa has travelled the world as a golfer, travel journalist, and golf entertainer and seen the impact that having access to sports can have on a child. Along with Lisa, NHL players Zack Boychuck and Jordan Eberle will be participating in the days activities, including fun extras such as a putting challenge, golf get-away holes, and so on.
